School Council

Welcome to our School Council!

Our School Council is made up of two pupils from each class, elected at the beginning of the year. Each representative was chosen due to their commitment to listening to all voices in the school and for striving to make a difference in our school community. The school council oversee all our school values and are considered excellent role models of these already.

We have elected a head boy and girl who will also be part of the school council.

Throughout the year, they attend School Council meetings where a range of matters are discussed. The School Council all strive towards the same common goal, which is to ensure the children of Ab Kettleby are proud of their environment, and are kind, self-regulated and respectful individuals, so that they leave Ab Kettleby with the skills to become life-long learners.

Our head boy and girl are:
Head Boy – Seb
Head Girl - Millie

Our school council representatives are:
Bumble Bees – Reuben and Ellie
Honey Bees – Olivia and Max
The Hive – Ruby and Charlie

Over the Autumn Term, our School Council has been incredibly busy, showing enthusiasm, responsibility and a real commitment to making a positive difference within our school community. The term began with inspiring leadership speeches delivered in front of the whole school. After listening to lots of wonderful speeches from our Year 6 candidates, Millie and Seb were proudly chosen as our Head Girl and Head Boy.

Alongside this, School Councillors were democratically selected within each class after confidently presenting their ideas to their peers. Our councillors this year are Reuben and Ellie from Bumble Bee Class, Max and Olivia from Honey Bee Class, and Charlie and Ruby from Hive Class.

Throughout the term, School Council members have led and supported a wide range of charity and awareness events. They delivered assemblies to raise awareness for Jeans for Genes Day, encouraging the whole school to wear jeans in support of Genetic Disorders UK. They also organised a hugely successful Macmillan Cake Sale, taking responsibility for advertising, organising and selling a wonderful selection of donated and home-made cakes from parents and carers. This fantastic effort raised a whopping £109.30. For Children in Need, the school went spotty, with councillors explaining the importance of the charity in assembly and helping to raise an impressive £107.00.

Our School Council also played a key role in important community and remembrance events. Head Boy Seb and Head Girl Millie confidently introduced our Harvest Festival at St James’ Church, where the school donated an incredible three huge boxes of non-perishable food items to Helping the Isolated, including soup, tinned fruit, instant noodles and vegetables. The council also sold poppies for Remembrance Day, raising a total of £117.93. During Anti-Bullying Week, councillors led an assembly for Odd Socks Day, speaking thoughtfully about the importance of kindness, respect and standing up against bullying.

In addition to fundraising and awareness work, the School Council has been involved in developing school life further. Councillors took part in interviewing a lunchtime supervisor, working in small groups with potential candidates and giving valuable feedback. To end the term on a high, Head Boy Seb and Head Girl Millie introduced a wonderfully festive Carol Service for parents and carers at St James’ Church, showcasing their growing confidence and leadership.

We are incredibly proud of everything our School Council has achieved this term and are looking forward to another busy Spring Term, including an exciting trip to Melton Borough Council Offices where they will have the opportunity to meet the Mayor.
