Years 2 and 3 (Honey Bee Class)

To end our school year, we have enjoyed our topic ‘Rocks, Relics and Rumbles’. We have loved learning all about volcanoes and earthquakes and how these natural disasters happen. We enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Nottingham Caves and learnt al about their history and the rocks found in them.

Our Maths has involved working on our tine, position and direction and continuing to practice our non-negotiables in preparation for next year. In English, we have enjoyed writing a diamond poem all about earthquakes and volcanoes. We had to think of nouns, adjectives and verbs for these, and they were loads of fun to write! We also researched volcanoes and wrote some facts in the form of a Non-Chronological Report. We combined all of our skills and everything we have learnt through the year.

In Science and Geography, we have been learning about rocks and soils and how these are linked to volcanoes. We learnt about the layers of the earth and how tectonic plates can create earthquakes and volcanoes. We researched volcano locations on maps based using an atlas and identified where they can be located.  We created our own rocks using starburst which was loads of fun!

Our DT involved designing and creating our own castles using paper and card. This was very tricky but rewarding when we finished. In computing and PSHE we learnt about online safety and how emailing can be effective. We also learnt about how to be kind online and how to send a friendly email. In PE, we have been working on our athletics in preparation for sports day which was an amazing day full of loads of fun.

We’ve had a wonderful final half term before our summer break. It will be an exciting new year as we move into our new year groups!
